The New Zealand athletes io compete at the Australasian championships at Brisbane this month left for Australia this evening- by the Moeraki, and were given a hearty send-off by a large crowd of people. At noon the members of the team were entertained at lunch. Dr A. K. Newman, president of the New Zealand Coun-

cil, presided. Dr Newman said he was ' very pleased to be present to wish the team success. There was no doubt the team would have been stronger with Orbell, Murray, Haskins, and Wallace. His own belief, however, was that the team would do extremely well, and he hoped it would | bring back the banner. Later in the day i members of the team had a practice on the Basin Reserve. N.Z. ATHLETIO UNION. At a meeting of delegates of athletic ' societies in the Wairarapa district it was resolved to advise the New Zealand i Athletic Union that the centre was prepared to guarantee' a sum towards the cost of two trial issues of an official calendar.
