j LONDON, August 2. j The Australians commenced a match against South Wales at Cardiff to-day. Ransford, Layer, Cotter, Carter, and Trumper are standing out. The weather ■was fine, and the wicket easy. The attendance -was 7000. The home team, batting first, made 228. Macartney took five wickets at a cost of 39 ruins. When stumps were drawn the Australians had lost one wicket for 59, Hartigan, not out, 38. August 3. The weather was 6unny and the wicket good. The attendance numbered 10,000. The Australians' first innings closed for 271. Chief scores: Hartigan 88, M'Alister 65. The innings lasted 225 minutes. South Wales, who were in a minority of 43 on the first innings, had lost five wickets for 83 when stumps were drawn for the dayAugust 4. i The weather 'was sunny, the wicket fast, and the attendance small when play was resumed at Cardiff to-day again&t South Wales. The Australians won with eight wickets to spare. South Wales, in their second venture, scored 107. Hopkins captured four wickets for 11 runs. Australia in their second innings lost two wickets for 65 — Gregory, not out, 41.
