DISTRICT FOOTBALL.

SIX DISTRICTS RECOMMENDED. NINE FIRST GRADE TEAMS. At last night's meeting of the Otago Rugby Football Union the sub-committee appointed to consider the district scheme proposal submitted a report. Mr H. F. Sincock, who was spokesman, said that the committee had considered two schemes — one for six districts and tha other for five. The six districts would, with the University, Port Chalmers, and Taieri teams, make nine First Grade teams. The six districts suggested were : —^Southern, Momington, Dunedin, Central, Middle District, Roslyn, and North End. Under the five-district scheme the titles were: — CavsTsham, Mornington, Central, North End, and Roslyn, but the committee was more inclined to the 6ix-district scheme. The boundaries for these were a3 follow: — Southern. — The Southern district included all the land between the Taieri boundary and a line following the Main South road from Look-out Point down along the tram line to the junction below, the Southern Cemetery, where it met the Dunedin Central boundary on the flat and followed back along King "Edward street to the railway trowing. The boundary of the district exton ds along this to Wharf street till tho harbour frontage is mot. Anything south of this line is in the Southern district. Mornington.— Ths Mornington district follows tha same boundary line as the Southern fiom Look-out Point to the junction below the cemetery hill. Here it strikes up Ma it land as far as Maelaggan street, which is followed down to Rat tray street, up which tho boundary then extends to Ycrk placo, along which it runs till the i Queen's Drive i* met. The line then goes j Ma Harcouvt street, Preston, crescent and Ciin.arv-jn street to tho District road, along which and Hawhorne road it runs back to the starting po'nt on the Main South road. 'Dunedin Central.— This district lies bet wwn the foreshoro ami the boundaries of the Southern and Mornington districts just dtsciiboci. On tho north the boundary extends to St. Andrew street, stretching to tne water frontage in a straight line with the street awl in the contrary direction turns up York place- to Arthur street, wnere the boundary of the Mornington district District.— From the corner of Aitlmr street and York place this boundary follows the edge of the Central district down York place and St. Andrew street to Castle street, alone: which it runs to the j Wat»r of Leith. FoMowing up the Leitn to i the tramway track, tho boundary then «• tends down the iie-t 6i Je of tne line as fai 1 as Buccleugh street, up which it gcos a! j stakes in a straight line for the Pine Hill IOW I. This is followed some d«tant ? and liau"-h ' From Wocdhaugh an ascent is fade to the Cloar, from which tho Town Bolt U followed back to the junction at Arthur street and York place. Rosiyn.— The Roslyn district lies at the , back of the boundaries of the Mornington md Middle districts already indicated. North End.— This district starts from thg boundary of the Central at Castle and St. A.ndrew fetreete, stretches to the water front '

. ? on the one side, and follows on the other tha ! Central boundary along Castle street and ; to Buccleugh street in N.E. Talley, up this street to the Pine Hill road, which ! j forms the other boundary From a certain district up this read a line is taken acros* to the Eastern boundary' to sever the die- . trict from Port Chalmers. It had been extremely difficult, continued Mr Sincock, to get at the number, of player* [ — neither the Union nor the Kaikorai bad L forwarded lists of the addresses of. their , players, consequently the list drawn xvp was f not a very good guide. The following figures, however, had been prepared showJ ing the results under both schemes: —

No returns were available from the Kjxt> korai Club, so no figures of -worth could be given for the Roslyp district, while the Union Club was »lso delinquent in this re-" spect, so the figures for the North End ■would be largely altered. The TaierF and Porb Chalmers, districts would remain much as th«y wetfe, as the proposal did not affect them. Port Chalmers would include the Ravensbourne a* junior players. [ The numbers received from each cluh ' were as follow : — • . ThirJ

Ifc was pointed out that the numbar of players given for each district -was merely a guide, and was subject to alteration whon, full returns vrJTe available. _ Mr Sincock concluded by saying that the only thin? to do was to submit the. schemea to a meeting of delegates to be fixed, and they could decide whether six or five districts would be the better.- In the fivedistrict scheme the boundaries for tne Caversham, Momington, and Roslyn districts are practically the same, the vital difference being that the boundary on fcha north of the central district extended to Frederick street in place of St. Andrei street, thus making the remainder of tin district one in place of two as in the sijl< district scheme. . After a 6light discussion by the members it was decided that a special meeting ot delegates should bo held on September 9. and t&at plans of the proposals should bp circulated in anticipafion thereof.
