THE DREADNOUGHT MEAT ADVERTISEMENT.
WELLINGTON, August 3. Recently tflere appeared in the London Daily Mail an advertisement inking the British people to buy their meat from the country that gave them Dreadnoughts. The v advertisement greatly annoyed a large number of New Zealanders, and there were many inquiries as to who was responsible for it. The Hon. Thomas Mackenzie communicated with the High Commissioner in London on the subject, an 3 has received the following reply: — "Re your telegram of July 31, the advertisement was certainly not authorised by my department. Full inquiries have been made, but I have been unable to discover the origin of the advertisement. " Speaking at the Agricultural Conference to-day, Mr Mackenzie said his own opinion was that some of the meat -dealers in the Old Country were responsible for the advertisement. Mr W. C. Buchanan: It was unfortunate, whoever did it. Mr Mackenzie : Yes, but I don't believ« for one moment that such an advertisement emanated from a New Zealander. — {" Hear, bear.")
