T.A.T.C. STEEPLECHASE MEETING. MELBOURNE, August 8. The V.A.T.C. Steeplechase meeting was opened yesterday, in .beautiful weather. The following are the results: — CRIMEA TRIAL HANDICAP. Six furlongs.—Token 1, Queen of Scots 2, Belle Seibrig-ht 3. Won by_two lengths. Time, Imin 18jsec. MOONDAH PLATE. Seven furlongs.— Aberdeen 1, Socialist 2, Otus 3. Won by three lengths. Time, l^nin 30£ sec. AUSTRALIAN HURDLE RACE, Of 1300sovs. Three miles and a-half, less 92 yards. Mr E. Manifold's br g Nightlight, by The Chevalier— Vesta, syrs, 9.13 (Morgan) 1 Mr G. J. dough's- eh m Louise, aged, 9.0 (Koope) -*- 3 Fourteen horses started. . x JSogrue's March led the field over the first hurdle, with the ww't well bunched. The pace was slow. Rogue's March and Fossil entered the straight together, attended by Bribery, Enchanted States, The Sun, and L*buise. Bribery then moved up and passed the judge's box in the van. Running past the mile and a-qu&rter post Fossil was again in command. Kalnuck fell here, and broke his neck. Bribery was Apparently .interfered with, and fell back. Running down the railway side, JThe Sun ran up into second place, and Nightlight moved up. The Sun and Fossil entered the straijt-ht togethe , two lengths ahead of Da&oba, NightligVit, and "Enchanted States. Nightlieht joined the leaders at the mile post. , The Sim then went out on- his own. and at the seven-furlong post had a lead of three, lengths, while Enchanted States dropped back. Nightlijrht and Fossil raced tip to the leader, and half a-mile from home Fossil was leading from Nightlight. with The Sun close up Louise was the last of the forward division. Nig'htlight then drew away, and entered the straight several lengths ahead of Fossil, who tell back % whilo Louise was moving up. Won easily by eight lengths. Rogue's March was fourth. Time. 6min 47sec. BALACLAVA STAKES. One mile.-,-Nobel 1. Sweet Bird 2, Kerlie 3. Won by three-quarters of a length. Time, Imin 473 sec. WILGAH STEEPLECHASERS' FLAT HACE. One mile, seven furlongs, and 64yards. — Haeremai 1, Confedeirat» 2, Kyappa 3. Won by five lengths. Time, 3min 32isec. MORNINGTON WELTER HANDICAP. One mile. — Francis 1. Golden Cairn 2. Si«re Moi, 3.
