August 9.— Mr Courtier, Government orchard inspector, gave, a helpful demonstration of "spraying and pruning at the garden of Mr Garland, president of the A. ami P. Association. Mr Courtier emphasised the necessity for keeping clean what i-> one of the cleanest fruit districts in New Zealand. A similar demonstration was given at Morneen, in the garden of Mr E. Stokes. An exhibition of rose pruning will shortly bo given under the auspices of the Waimate Horticultural Society, in Mr E. HassaH's garden. 1 Benevolent Society, — At i&e annual j»«*t-

Mr Bowker, the master, afterwards referred to the hospitality shown by Mx E. A. Studholrae ' throughout the 6eason> and on his call three 'r cheers were given for that gentleman. Mrs - Studholme then presented Mr 3- D. ■ Whitney with a handsome gold watch and 1 J chain as some recognition of his services • as founder 'and master of the hunt, and advantage wat taken of the occasion by, '• Messrs Bowker, E A.
