LAKE WAN AKA .

August 5. — Our annual school concert and ball was held on Friday last, and, as< usual, proved to bs the success of the year. The night being fine the attendancewas large, and the financial results satisfactory. A fairly long programme was gone through, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, most of the singers having to respond to encores. Mr A. M'Dougall, with a few well-chosen remarks, opened the concert. Songs were contri-. 'buted by the following : —Mrs D. Anderson and Miss Barclay, Messrs C. Nicholeon, J. Raittes, J Nicholson, E. Ewing, H. M'Kay, C. Templeton, W. Bovett, and M. Cowan. A very enjoyable item was the dancing of a Highland fling by Mies Perriam. A humorous dialgoue by Messrs C. Nicholson and R. M'Dougall concluded the programme. The following accompanied the different singers : —Misses Perriam, Russell, and Murdoch. Meesrs J. Nicholson and F. Thomson. After the concert the hall was cleared for dancing, which wa-, indulged in with the U6ual enthusiasm, the music for the dance being supplied by Messrs R. Miller and R. M'Dougall. Football. -^Our Football Club has registered another win, this time defeating the Cardrona team by 28 points to nil. The forwards were very evenly matched, any difference being in favour of Cardrona. but the Wanaka backs were a long way too good for the opposition. The Saturday after the match with Cardrona the Wanaka team lined up against a team of Pembroke citizens, the citizens playing 21 men. This .natch proved to be a really enjoyable affair, and a fairly .large crowd gathered, and barracked 6trongly for the citizens. The team eventually won by 8 points to nil, but had to play their best to do co. What the citizens lacked in skill and knowledge of the game they made up for in will : their energy was undoubted. There is\talk of a match between the Cardrona and Pembroke citizens, and it is to be hoped that it will come off. For the match between the Wanaka team and the citizens

the Rev. Mr Chandler refereed in a very ' satisfactory manner. j
