AMERICAN TOURIST PARTY.

AN EARLY VISIT. Mr J. B. Suttor, the Commercial Commissioner for New South Wales in the Ea>t, has foreshadowed the projected visit to Sydney this year of a party of American tourists. Mr Wade, the Premier of New South Wales, has now had a further communication from Mr Suttor, who has been advised by Captain Beardsley, the vicepresident of the Collver Tours Company, Boston, U.S.A.. that definite arrangements have been made for a large party of wealthy American tourists to leave San Francisco for Australia, via Japan and China, etc. . on August 7. The party is due to arrive at Sydney on the return journey, after visiting New Zealand, on January 1 next. The following extract from Captain Beardsley's letter to Mr Suttor is of special interest: — "This party being the first that we have ever sent to Australia, we are more than anxious that they should come home with glowing accounts of their trip. The party is made up of very wealthy people, and they come from many different parts of the United States, and their word when they return, will be no mean factor in promoting further tourist business, to say nothing of the possibilities of inteVsling American money and brains in the development of your wonderful land." Mr Suttor remarks incidentally that Japan is making strenuous efforts to encourage tourist traffic, especially from America, and that it lias been authoritatively estimated that an annual sum of not less than £20,000,000 is spent abroad by American tourists.

Mr J G. Wi'«on, at the Farmprß' Union Conference, said he was filled with amazement that dairy farmers, when they could by proper selection put at least 25 per cent more money into their pockets by properly testing their cows, with scarcely any more labour, and with no more food, yet preferred to continue an old methed and lo«e their profits.
