THE KENNEL.

j By Tehrob.

Fanciers ana breeders of dogs are cordially invited to contribute to this column. " Terror " -will endeavour to make ibis department as int«rest;mg and up-to-date as poesib:«, but m order to do thi3 he must hare tbe co-operation of hit readers, hence he trusts this invitation will be chjerfully responded to. — Dunedin fanciers will be well represented at rhe Christchurch Kennel Club's show this week. Mr J W. Thomson is showing c youngster, Moreland Mystery, a j very promising young bitch by his imported • fox terrier dog Raby Oxlip ex oh. Wakari Pride, and I wish him good luck with her. At the- moment I haven't heard of any other smooths from Dunedin, but have no doubt there will be some dark horses about. Mr E. A. Shand is taking up a team of wires — viz., Sundowner, Roma, and Oherteey Lass ; the latter is -being shown by a new owner, ! Mr P. M'Neill, and we wish them both success. Dunedin bulldogs will be fairly well represented by Ma- J. G. Adair'« Australianbred dog Rewa, which will be benched for the first time. Mr R. S. Menzies'e Glenledi Kennels wiil be represented by Glenledi Beauty, whfch won first prize in Open Class • at last Christchurch show^. Mts Lindo Ferguson is exhibiting her puppy Khaki; which took first place in Puppy Class at Dunedin show. Mr T. Snow is to the fore with two puppies by Ohadwell Prince— Little Lady. It is reasonable to suppose that some of the coveted tickets will find their way to Dunedin exhibitors. —Mr H. A. Woolnough, a well-known breeder and judge of bulldogs, from Sydney, is at present on a business visit to the Dominion. Mr Woolnough had a letteT of introduction to Mr R. S. Menzies, secretary of the South Island Bulldog Club, who has in turn supplied him with letters to northern fanciers, and it is his intention to take the opportunity of seeing the bulldogs throughout New Zealand. Mr Woolnough has on several occasions acted in the capacity of judge of bulldog ciasess at leading Australian shows, and is an exceptionlaly enthusiastic admirer of the breed. It is to be hoped that Mr Wioolnough will be fortunate to drop on oruat of our shows whilst on his travels. —Mr E. Webster's smooth-coated bitch Glendon Mist has visited eh. Chingford Nipper. This cross should throw something out of the ordina-ry. 3u*r Mite-heft, CumberI land street, has had bad luck with his litter of -wire-haired puppies, losing five of the six, pups born. However, he mustn't despair, , and Tje trust he may have a champion in the survivor. — Writing to the Sydney Morning Herald the judge (Mr Crane) of the dog section" of the recent Dunedin show, saye : — "At the Dunedin Fanciers' show, Helcl on the 17th, 18th, and 19th of June, the dog section was represented by 167 dogs and 314 entries. The bestsupported classes were fox terriers (102 entries), bulldogs (47), cocker and field spaniels (55). The smooth fox terriers brought no etar^fco light, excepting W. Henderson's Moreland Model, whose sire and dam are Double First and Wakari Pride. Model won the special for the best smooth. The smooth dogs were disappointing, "ac most of those which had good bodies had bad heads, and vice versa. The best dog was Mi«s M'Kenzie's Patsy (Raby Oxlip — Forbury's Pride), plain in head, bufc possessing splendid body properties and excellent legs, feet, and bone. The veteran Fred. Rogen led in th? next best dog, Sardonyx, which owns Rood head end ears, but fails in body and hindquarters. Akarana Actor, second to Sai'donyx in two classes, is a neatly-made dosr. rather cheeky, but owning good bone. The bitches mostly carried their ears badly. M. Model I have referred to. The next "best was Taylor and Henderson's Gondola, who has not the best of heads, but hei outline and style are^ an object-lesson. Tho wire-hairs in New Zealand are streets ahead of those seer at Sydney shows. Our old friend Glendon Major sired the champion dog, Sundowner, who 13 an attractive and evenly-balanced terrier. The bulldogs at Dun-edin were hot stuff, and collectively would more than hold their own in this State. There was a great go between the imported pair-F. E. WaWon s blp: white dog Greenstone am' A b. Nieholl's Bromley Swasher. After a keen scrutiny the verdict went oo the Stone dog, who is better fronted and more typical th^n hw handsome opponent. Both dogs excel in head properties, e=peciallv in squareness of muzzle. Another good dog was Mm A. Emns's Sheffield .Py bus. The , Sydneybred bitoh Bensemietress won the bitch challenge prize. She was sent into the ring in 17 good l " condition that he: friend* here would hardly know her. She » owned by Mr Menzies, who has another good one in Glenledi Beauty. Mr Evans won twice with , a good one in Sheffield Ins.
