IMPROVEMENT IN THE NORTH ISLAND.
WELLINGTON, August 4. Tiie total subscriptions to the citizens' unemployed relief fund amount lo £1700, of which about £600 has been expended. Among the latest subscriptions are £52 from the general post office employees and £51 from the corporation employees. Advices received by the Labour^ De- j pavtment from various parts of the North Island indicate that the conditions are gi-nduilly improving. Applications for faim labourers are being received daily.
