Notes from Hokitika.
HOKITIKA, August 4. An application, with the necessary deposit of £500, for 300 heads of water from the Toaroha River for a hydro-electric mining scheme at Rimu and Seddon Terrace ha 5 been deposited. The application is under tho mueh-d::=cussed water power regulations, and has been made to the Minister of Public Works. It 16 made by tho original promoters of the scheme, who have about £1000 in prospecting and enginoeung to propound the mining bfheme. Tho capital of the company is übout £150,000, which is exacted to be iai-*»d shortly outside the Dominion. As tho ten aces are known to be highly auriferous and <-a>tly worked once an adequate .-upply of water is available, the scheme i-s looked upon as a iirst-class mining proposition, w hch -should do immense service, not only in advancing the interest of the particular district affected, but ato in initiating a new method of mining in this country. Much satisfaction is felt locally that the negotiations have been brought to the present stage, and the promote! s have thanked the Minister for tho concessions made to enable this to be done. It is hoped that the preliminaries will be hastened as much as possible to a\oid further protracted delay
