EBBW VALE v. NEW ZEALAND. ZEALAND.

SYDNEY, March 9. The All Blacks succeeded in defeating Ebbw Vale .by the narrow margin of a try to a goal. The play throughout was fast and exciting, and the teams were attacking alternately. During the first half Wrigley was frequently dangerous for the visitors, and eventually he scored a clever try. The Welshmen, however, played up well,, and before the interval they landed a penalty goal. Excellent football was shown by both teams in the second half. The home eide made great efforts to secure the lead, but the defence of the New Zealanders was superb, and Ebbw Vale failed to accomplish, their purpose. The New Zealanders, on the other hand, were well held. The Daily News, commenting on the match, says : " The All- Blacks were distinctly stale, and they admit the fact themselves. They found the class- of football in which they had taken part to be much better than they had anticipated and were led to expect by the previous New Zealand team. If they again come Home they will bring some better men and a party of at least 40. Their weakness has been largely in the matter of reserves."
