FIRES.

AUCKLAND, March 5. An eight-roomed house on Seafield View road, owned by Dr A. Peterson and occu< pied by Mr J. K. Patersen was totally, destroyed by fire at 5 o'clock this morning. - Mr Patersen rescued his wife and children with difficulty, and he himself was considerably burnt, while the children were slightly, singed. The insurances were £250 on the 1 house and £250 on the furniture, both in the National. The loss exceeds the insurance by £300. NELSON, March 5. A fire broke out at midnight and gutted^ Savage and Sons' paint and paperhanglngt shed, a building detached from the main, store in" Hardy street. The stock was valued at £1000 and" the; insurances" were 'as "follow:— £200 in thai Yorkshire office, £200 in the South British, and £100 each in the Sun and Northern offices. The building was uninsured. There was a policy of £80 on the glazing shed and fixtures, but the stock of plateglass, valued at £300, was not covered.
