WELLINGTON. March 9 The Kigh Commissioner's repoit, dated London. March 7, i& as follows — Mutton. — The market is firm. There is better inquiry this week for forward deliveries owin^ to expectation of small shipments from New Zealand. Canterbury mutton, 4f d ; North Islard. 3Jd; River Plate. 3JdLamb — The market is very firm. Canterbury bravds. 5Zd; and other than Canterbury, sJd' Butter — The market is firm at the decline. The excitement has subsided. The position is quite satisfactory, and there is a good demand. Choicest ISTew Zealand, 1225; Au«tia]ian, 120s , Argentine, 120= , and Danish, 126s per cwt Cheese. — The maiket is slightly weaker, with less demand. White chee«e, 61s, and coloured, 62s per cwt. Homp.— The market is very depressed on account of advices from Manila, and all fibres are offering at much lower prices. Good fair grade on the spot, £25 ; fair grade, £24 per ton. For March-May shipments. £24 10s and £23 5s are quoted, respectively for good fair and fair grade. Ths cocksfoot seed market is quiet at 643 per cwt The hop market is dull, and likely to continue so. The market is becoming more depresFed on account of the licensing legislation. Best quality English hops, 60s; American, 40s rer cwt. lhe shipments from the River Plate for February 1908, are: London— Mutton, 86,260 carcases- lamb, 11,701; Liverpool, 88,228 and 17.659; Hull. 7101 and 1000; Newcastle, 13,520 and 1937; Southampton, 600; Ireland, 3193 and 200. The current quotations for Bradford tops are: 36's low crossbreds, lid per lb; 40's. low crossbreds, ll|d; 44's, medium crossbreds, Is Id; 50's, halfbreds, Is s|d ; 56's, quarter- \ bred i la BJd; 60s. merinoes. 2s OJd. The market 18 dull and declining, especially for coaist! tops of all grades. THE FROZEN MEAT MARKET. NAPIER, March 5. TO THE EDITOR. | Sib, — Referring again to our estimates of cocksfoot c f op on Banks Peninsula., the correctness of which has been doubted, we have pleasure in supplying you with the actual returns we have now gathered up to date. On leaving the Peninsula we got a- fair amount of extra returns, in addition to thoee we already had, from the various merchants in Chrißtchurch and also from the shipping company. Sacks.
