DROUGHT COMPLETELY BROKEN. RAIN IN CANTERBURY. Welcome rain was reported to be falling on the 3rd inst. Jfrom Wellington southward. In some instances the fall was heavy, while in others the rain came down gently. In North Canterbury the fall was insignificant. The Otago Central district benefited greatly by the steady fall. On the 4th, telegrams reported that the rain had continued throughout the night of the 3rd, the telegrams recording this welcome intelligence coming from every district south of Wanganui. On this date rain was reported to be falling in North Canterbury, and the country everywhere was presenting a green appearance, grass and foliage having been revived. In the Ashburton district 1.35 in fell on the 3rd and 4th, putting an end to the prolonged drought.
