HYDE.

■ March 7.—Quite a shock was experienced in this district to-day when word was received from Clyde of the painfully sudden death of Mrs j. J. Ramsay. Mrs Ramsay left Hyde (where she had been visiting her relatives) in perfect health last Saturday, and on Thursday she met with a, slight accident, which necessitated medical attention, out was not regarded as serious, and consequently the news of her death caused much sorrow among the deceased lady's very large circle of friends. What intens.fies the sadness of the sudden call is that Mr J. J. Ramsay left Dunedin on Thursday en route for the North Island totally unaware of anything being amiss. The deceased lady resided for many years in Hyde, and was much loved and honoured, and general sympathy is extended to the bereaved husband and family and large circle of relatives. Rain.—Further welcome rains fell during the week, end feed prospects are good. Turnips and pastures are now making splenuid growth, and abundance of winter feed should now be assured. School Picnic The annual school picnic" took place on the 23th mst. *in the playground, and there was a large gathering of scholars, parents,' and friends. The usual races, games, etc., were indulged in by the younger members, while to the older the grateful shade of the plantation proved very pleasant. A dance in the evening concluded the dey's outing.
