THE TALISMAN DIRECTORATE. WELLINGTON, March 4.
Dr NewnJan (chairman of the Wellington Comniattee of the Talisman. Consolidated] shareholders) expresses surprise at the con* munication made to the press by tho ch*ii» man of the Auckland Stock Exohftnge. Th« 1 Wellington Commit tee- considered th*t B<x far as any arrangement with the Auoklandl Committee was concerned, it was canoelletl by that committee definitely refusing to oo» operate with the Wellington and southern! shareholders in nominating Mi Auld -for th& vacancy created last December. Auckland was unofficially and confidentially notified ia January lasrt that tho Wellington Committed was anxious that the Auckland Committed should not support Mr Cordnex James, ft | member of the old regime who was suggested as a candidate, until the receipt *byi , Wellington of full particulars by letter ot certain information oabled from London. The | Auckland Obmmitt.ee did not wait, but decided to support Mx Cordner Jamias. Unless good cause was shown to the contrary, th« Wellington Committee then decided to sup* port Mr George Wilson. Information re* ceived this morning from London is con* j sidered to more than confirm the wisdom ol I the Wellington Committee's action and thp necessity for Mr Wilson's appointment. Dr Newman and Meaexs Knight and Wesio^ leave in the morning to attend the meeting of shareholders called by the Auckland Com* mittee for Friday.
