I&» Wlite Cross Society.— On Tattwday
last the lecturer of the Whils Cross Society, Mr Bligh, visited the local schpol «-nd pddressed the senior boys on ''Purity." Hia j remark's were well received by the youthfuj | audience. In the evening MTM T Bligh addressee j the young men in the ITarven Hall, and though there wa3 hot a very large attendanice, the lecturer received a very attentive hearing. His method of dealing -with the subject of impurity wa-9 impressive. Chineae Mission.— The Rev. .Mr M'Neur, missionary to the Chinese, sent out by the New Zealand Preabyterism Church, preached in the local Church. The speaker took his text from Isaiah XLIX, verse 12, and gave a most interesting outline of the extensive work carried on by our Church ia Canton and at other station's-. The preacher-, who has been six years in China, and has helped considerably in the 3pread of the Gospel there, spoke medestly of his own work He pointed out that China, was no longer an effete nation, but was awake, and becoming aware of its own strength- and vost resoxfrces. If that great nation was not Christianised now the opportunity would soon'pass away, and New Zealand; being at the gwte of the Orient, might bs the first to sniffer from her .heathen soldiers. Cleaning Up. — The Government painter* have bseia busy here during the past fortnight, and" the station, goods-shed', and all the railway residences have received a liberal painting. "The staitioir-master has *■ cadet to assist him during the busy season, sixl he isthus able to) devote hfe time to the more important of b& over-crowded list of duties.
