WAITAHUNA BRASS BAND BAZZ AR.

• A bazaar in aid of, the above was opened on Feb. 26 by Mr D. Reid, M.P., who ■was supported on the platform by the Rev. 3". S. Ponder and Messrs Pringle, Laidlaw, Patrick, M'Ara, and Garden. There was a large attendance of the public. Mr Pringle briefly introduced Mr Reid, who explained that, owing to the absence of Mt Jas. Allen (the member for Bruce from the Dominion), he had been' asked to, open the bazaar. H» also said that he was pleased to be present, and that he was not altogether a stranger to Wa.itah.una. Speaking, of the bazaar and its object; he found from some notes supplied him by Mr Pringle. that the band comprised 20 members, and that some £220 had been, expended in the purchase of instruments, of which amount £60>had been paid, leaving a balance due of £160. Against this balance, however, was to be placed the sale of some £50 worth of art union tickets, and, as a further sum of £60 was expected from the bazaar, there would only be a debit balance standing of some £50 — a state of affairs which, he considered ~ very satisfactory, seeing that) the band had only been in existence some 10 months. Mr Reid'B remarks were received with approval by the large gathering. The Rev. J. S. Ponder, in a ne^ speech, proposed a oordial vote of thanks to Mr Reid fox his attendance, which was heartily responded to by all pre-sent, acd acknowledged by Mr Reid. The bazaar will not be closed untiJ to-night. In the meantime the indications point in the direction of their being no debi* balance when the time for closing arrives.
