LONDON, March 1. The steamer Victoria, from Australia, had a terrible passage between Gibraltar and Plymouth. The weather on Friday night was the wildest ever experienced by the ship's officers. There was a fierce storm of snow, hail, and terrific seas in the English Channel. BERLIN, February 27. The North German Lloyd Company is receiving an additional subsidy of half a million marks (about £25,000). It will resume the New Guinea-Singapore route, with fresh ports of call. This means a monthly service to Sydney, New Guinea, Hongkong, and Japan. The ships will also call at Yap, in the Caroline group. NEW YORiV, February 25. The Ship Subsidy Bill introduced in the United States Senate by Senator Gallinger authorises the payment of 16s a mile foT the outward voyage to second class vessels running to Australasia and the Philippines, or virtually the same rate which is at present applicable to first class vessels. * SYDNEY, "February 28. Speaking at the luncheon aboard the new steamer Ulimaroa, Mr Appleton, a | director of the Huddart-Parker line, said that they had heard a good deal of talk about a combination of shipping companies. Certainly there were agreements between his and other companies, but they related purely to the regulation of fares and freights. No written bond between all the shipping companies was in existence. " '
