I The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from j the High Commissioner, dated London. February 29: — There has been a better tone in the mutton market this -week, but no change in prices. Lamb. — The market is firm, and there is a scarcity of prime quality. Canterbury, brands are quoted at 51d, other than Canterbury 5 l-12d. I Beef. — The market is firm. Hindquarters are quoted at 3id, forequarters at 21d. Butter. — The market has broken down ancl is very unsettled, the demand having con< ! siderably fallen off. Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 120s; Australian, II63; Danish, 1255 ; Siberian, 116s. The cheese market is firm. White makes are quoted at 625; coloured, 635. j Hemp. — The market is ' 'lifeless, baing greatly affected by reports of large ship- , inents from Manila. There are no trans- ' actions of importance. The following are ' current quotations: — Good fair grade, £26;fair grade, £25; fair current Manila, £25. t Cocksfoot. — The seed market is quiet, and] there is no change in prices to report. The hop market is very dull. Best quality] English is quoted at 60s; American at 40s.
