TIMAKU.
(Herald, 20nd ir.st ) Wheat — The wheat market here has- Teceived a shock, principally owing to prices in England having suffered a drop of 6s per quarter during the past fortmgtt. This, combined with the fact that a quantity of Australian flour is said to be on the way to New Zealand, has had the effect of making this market fall into line to the extent of causing a dirop to from 3s 9d t: 4s, and considerably disturbing the market. Oats. — Business in oaits is fairly quiet, the anticipated transactions with Australia ha^in* fallen through. The reason for this . is that some 60,000 sacks of oats are now ai riving in the Commonwealth from Africa, and a further 10,000 tons are reported to be leaving the same country next month for the same destination, where the deliveries will be well distributed. The market hers I is expected to show a substantial weakening in consequence. Ihins, G-artons, and Danish are quoted at present at 2s for good samples delivered in Timaru, light sorts being Id Barley.— Good malting ba.rley is quoted at 4s 6d in Timaru. and there is a fair demand, particularly for Cape, but none of the latter is offering. f ASHBUR.TO2T SKIX AND WOOL SALES. j The ekin sales, postponed during the harvest, were resumed at Ashburton last ' week.
