i 1 PROPOSED REDUCTION IN PRICK. i WELLINGTON, February 19. The ovstcr beds on Waiheke Island and 'in the Bay of Island* will probably be opened on May 1. The Marine Denartmenr will employ experienced men to no the pickinsr. so that only rHe largest of f'no oysters will be taken. The depot will 'be established in Auckland, and all the oj&ters, with the exception of tho.se to the settlers in the neighbourhood of the beds, w ill be sent for distribution to the> various ports of the Dominion. Quantities nit loss than a sackful will be sold at a price which will be below that ruling for some years. The department is satisfied that the suprly will be fully equal io the demand. The beds in the Bay of Islands are said to be in a magnificent condition. Coffee was first grown in Arabia early in the fifteenth century, but was not ira» corteel into Eawrland until about 1650.
