Monday Evening. On Tuesday, February 18, at St. Peter's Bawch, Caveishwtt. Mire Amy Coughtrey was
married to Mr H. M'Arthur. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Canon King, after which the guests assembled! at Dr Coughtrey'a, St. Cl«ir, to. paartake of the usual wedding cake, etc. The bride looked very radiant as she entered the church on the arm of her father. She vras attired in a soft white satin, which w»s most becoming to her slender figure. The dtess was m«de in the simplest way possible, the skirt being a full one, with only a very short train. The bodice was made with Maltese lace yoke, folds of satin over the shoulders edged wiih Maltese lace. Her veil was a plain tulle one, and she earned a. lovely shower bouquet composed of white , oarnationsV geraniums, and maidenhair fern. "Heir only ornament ' wee a pearl pendant, the gift of the bridegroom. She was attended by two bridesmaids — Misa Alice Coughtrey and Miss Joan Scaife, — who .followed the bride in single file up the aisle. They wore very dainty dxesses of cxeam striped satin gauie over white -silk. ' The bodices were made with folds of saitin- «.ud lace yokes. Their hats w«a-e composed of two shades of red tulle with rosettes of ribbon and long ospzeyß falling over the aide. They carried shower bouquets of scarlet carnations and maiden- ' hoar fern, and also wore artistic pendants, the gift ol tbe bridegroom. -Dtr and Mrs Cough-trey xeceived ilieii guests at the entrance to 'the houee, while the bride and bridegroom received the eongTahiletione of all in the ball, which looked quite like a wall of flowers, part of. it forming a' perfect halo of yellow and brown, it being arranged with masses of monbre&a. Everywhere throughout the bouse were beautiful-, bowls of flowers. The wedding breakfast. 'was kid in a large room at the end of the hall. The table looked most tempting with its dainties and' flowers, the latter being white sweet peae and scarlet geraniums, to match the bridesmaids' dresses. Mr F«ihe<r, as the oldest friend present, gave the speech of the day, and was> followed by many others. The bride's' travelling dtress wa« a cigar | brown ooat and skirt, with hat of the same shade relieved with blue. The happy pair : left amidst showers of confetti for the south, •en route> for the lakes, where they are to spend their honeymoon. On Wednesday the Dunediu Cup meeting was commenced at WingatuL The day proved beautifully fine, and many were tempted oui in their smart costumes. / As it was fine, a great number of people were able to. motor
to the course, and the road to Mosgiel pre- T 3ented a very- busy appearance. The racecourse looked quite its best at this meeting, and strangers to Otago greatly admired the very pretty course and surrounding country. Several lunches were given. These always j add greatly to the enjoyment of the day from the ladies' point of view. Unfortunately, ' after luncheon a very strong wind sprang ' up, which, rather spoilt the chances of enjoying the lawn. The Kaikorai Band enlivened the day by playing popular airs very nicely. As. the day proved a very sunny one afternoon tea was partaken of on the lawn inside a marquee, the table being prettily decora-ted with different coloured sweet peas. Mrs Fergus received ncr guests < at the bottom erf the steps leading on to the lawn. She was becomingly attired in a gown, composed ef rich fawn corded silk, the bodice being adorned with pale blue passementerie and cream lace; ncr hat -was made of fawn tulle, with feathers and pale blue ribbon. Miss Fergus wore a becoming soft white silk, spotted with turquoise blue, the bodice being trimmed with thick lace berthe and transparent collar, her hat was pale blue intermingled, with green ; Miss Fanny Fergus wore a filet net dress, with touches of blue, charming hat of brown, rosettes of brown tulle in front, with long electric blue feathers trailing over either side; Miss Daisy Fergus, simple white muslin, large hat with pink roses. The same day the marriage of Miss Ethel Bollard L daughter of Mr J. G. .Ballard, tcl«graph Department inspector, to Mr Thomas Roberts, deputy-registrar in the Supreme Court, took plaoe at All Saint*' Church, at 2.80 p.m. The church wa* beautifully decorated by the bride's girl friend^ and the ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. H. :>=dford. The bride looked queenly «s she ■entered the. church, on the arm of her brother, who gave her away, owing to- her father having to be absent from the wedding through pressing business. Her dress wascomposed of soft white taffeta silk, the skirt being 1 made full, with panel of old lace "down the front of the skirt. Her bodice was made with transparent yoke of lace, pleated •ilk forming bretellea over the shoulders, and edged with lace. She wore a coronet of orange blossom, which, was daintily placed under the long tulle veil which hung nearly to the end of her skirt. She carried a glorious shower bouquet, composed ' of geraniums, carnations, maidenhair, etc. Her bridesmaids, numbering three, were the Misses Roberta (sisters of the bridegroom) and Miss Mir*me. They looked charming, 'and wore most be-"comingly-made gownß of blue taffeta silk, made in &« pinafore style, with full bodices of white lace. Their hats were pale blue crinoline straw, tastefully trimmed with feathers. They carried exquisite shower bouquets of pale pink sweet peas and maidenhair fern. After ihe ceremony the guests assembled at Mr Ballard's residence in Union street, where the usual toasts were proposed and the health of the happy couple was drunk. The table looked sweetly pretty, being- all decorated with white flowers -end white satin ribbon*, the principal flswera being white sweet pea. The bride's travelling dress, was dove-grey co*t and skirt, with piping of pale blue on the coat. Her flat was blue end grey. Mr and ' Mrs Roberts left for the south en route for the Lakes. A farewell -tea was- given by Mrs Johnson Brown at " D*lpadd«r," Clyde street, on Saturday afternoon to Mrs and the Misses Hamsay, who leave shortly on a trip to the Old Ooun-try. The gwrden looked very gay with its masses of beautiful flowers, and a band which played outside enhanced* th» proceedings. The tea table was beautifully decorated with Iceland poppies.
