"X rural bard is ever gay, And if his themes, are sometimes grey, "Eis only just a case of rain, Or else a neighbour's curt disdain, Albeit this or that his lay. liove whiter than the snows o' May, Clear laughter like a, child's at ph»y, And travel-dreams in distant Spain— < A rural bard. "With ".leaves of grass," a laurel bay, The art o' making rhymes or hay; In love with earth, men, heaven, and fain To chime the same tune o'er again. But anyhow one goes his way — A rural bard. 11. A cigarette, and blue smoke aisles, 3?hro' which to wander, haply milesAnd garner from the universe A poem or two to reimburse A lame world tumbling over " stylei.* O dream-poet o' such artless wiles, The radiant rbythm wrought of smiles, Trill cadences with meaning terse — A cigarette. The shadowed town in terraced piles Seems tangled like the bold world's guiles; But 'roidst burnt weed let one rehearse A renascence for best or worse. Alack, light's out!
