BAND CONTEST.

THE COMPETITION' COMMENCED. NEW PLYMOUTH, February 24. The band contest opened to-day with the baritone solo. Owing to the South Island bands mieeing the train connections at Wellington on Saturday morning, the hour of starting was postponed from 9 a.m. till 2.30 p.m- to give, competitors _ from the south an opportunity of competing should they have taken the earliest opportunity of arriving. Only one or two, however, did so, and the committee was unable to delay the start any, longer without upsetting the whole programme. Following are the results: — - _ - _
