By Peter Pan
February 22. Dear. Pasquin, — MacMahpns' Biogr&ph Company finished its Christchurch season on Wednesday, 4 ond passed through Wellington, en route to Gjsborne, on Thursday. " The small towns will be played across to New Plymouth, and* Auckland will be visited. Mr James- MacMahon states he has quite a lot of new films en route from England. Carter, the magician, has been occupying the Opera House stage all the week, and liis audiences" lutTe- been large; appreciative-,-and surprised. He is v *ll that has been said of him. His 'season will likely continue until Saturday, 29th inst. From here Cartergoes to Wanganui, and then north to Auckland, back through the small towns, and across to Nelson md Blenheim. Cart-ex then embarks on si long; tour of the East, commencing his route ai Manila on 31st May. The Royal Pictures are still keeping the 1 flag flying at His Majesty's, and: there is not any sign of the colours being hauled down. They ore now entering on the sixth week. George Petersen, in advance oi Wirih's Circus, has univeaj but »f tie time pf init-
ing the Bite for the erection of the tents had not been disclosed. The question of a circus site in this city at the present time requires some solving, for all the reclaimed land on which circus elephants and other artists were wont to disport has been built upon. But the worthy Petersen may have a site up his sleeve. Harry P. Lyons-, the veteran advance ageut, is on his Jast tour. Talking with him the other evening he told me that he had contracted to go through the Bast and as far as Egypt with Magician Carter, and at the conclusion of the tour he v. ould retire. " I have a little property, and enough to keep myself and Ma, so why should I beep roving? I've had my turn, and* can do with the rest. May he have «. long and peaceful old age. Fullers are still packing the little Theatre Royal, and the big business is like the fine weather — consistent.
Madame Carelli, who has been here for quite a number of weeks, proceeds south, and you should shortly have an opportunity of hearing her fine voice. George Ma.th.eson is improving, you will be glad to hear; so aJso is the Banvard brother. Both should be out and about again shortly. One of the Raccoons caused some excitement on the local wharf last Friday evening when the Warrimoo was leaving for Sydney. They had concluded their engagements with the- Fullers, and!- were returning to Sydney. They joined the boat, but it "was not until »he -was some distance from the wharf that they thought of their dog. which makes their turn a success On© of the Raccoons gob very excited. He called for the boat to be put back, oi that he should be put ashore to regain his dog. This could not bp done, so he attempted to jump overboard, with the intention of swimming ashore. He was caught by the ankles by two passengers, and hauled back again. He made another effort, but was again frustrated. The people on the wharf could not quite make, out what was the matter. Hearing the cries of the man for ''My dog!" every canine was scrutinised for signs of abnormalities. Eventually Baritone A. L. Cropp w»9_ picked holding a chain, at one end of which was a sad-c;}fd fox terrier. He was the cause of all the bother, but he wil l be duly forwarded to hia master. It appears that the Eaccoons 1 had failed to obtain «. necessary certificate from th© Health Department, and officials refused to allow the dog on the steamer.
