SUNDAY SCHOOL WORK.
Th« Clutha Presbytery, at its meeting a. couple of months ago, appointed a committee consisting of the Rev. Messrs Reid (convener), Miller, Ponder. and Howes, to mature a scheme by which the different congregations within the bounds might have brought before them the importance of Sunday school work, and the need for greater efficiency in the same. At the last meeting of ihe Presbytery the Rev. Mi Reid gave in the following report, which, on the motion of the Rev. Mr Fraser, seconded by the Rev. Mr Miller, was heartily agreed to SABBATH SCHOOL RTSPOET. Convinced as we are that the church that gives the most attention to the training of the young will be the church of the future. .ministers, Sabbath school teachers, and parents should bestir themselves to give i their very bast for the godly upbringing of ( the children. To this end we make two recommendations to the Presbytery: — First. — On one of the Sabbaths of March, there should be an exchange of pulpits within the, bounds of the Presbytery. The Rev. Mr Spence to exchange with the Rev Mr Howes, the Rev. Mr Miller with the R«v. Mr Fraser, the Rev. Mr Allan with the Rev. Mr Ponder, the Rev. Mr W T Currie with, the Rev Mr "W W Brown, the Rev Mr Dalrymple with the Rev. Mr Chisholm, the Rev. S. "W. j Currie with the Rev Mr Orr, the Rev Mr ( Blair with the Rev. Mr Williams, Tua-peka West with Beaumont, Glenomaru with Ratanui, and . that an address be given specially to parents and teachers Your committee would suggest that in addressing the parents these points get prominence — 1. The training of the child is primarily the duty of the parent 2 As toe Sabbath school teacher is only a helper, the parent should see that the I Sabbath school lesson is prepared, and in •' every way strengthen the hands of the teacher. 3 That the parents should each evening read, with their children the lesson set down in the International Bible-readuig scheme. In addressing the teachers, the following points should not be omitted: — i 1. The need of prayer for needed power. I 2 Success in teaching will come from thorough preparation of the lesson, and where | practicable the teachers should meet for the ' study of the lesson | 3. Teachers should as far as possible interest themselves individually in the children of their class. 1 4. It should ever be in the mind that the ultimate aim of all Sabbath, school work ia to lead Hie children to Christ. Second. —A training c'ass for teachers should
