T Cambrian, wno claims an. engagement in the Great Easter Handicap, to be run. at • the Canterbury Jockey Club's autumn meeting, is going along very nicely in his training work at EUexslie. Ironmould is. a regular attendant at training headquaorters, and bis connections hold out strong hopes of the veteran being seen to advantage over the hurdles before the season closes. Messrs Ryan and Degroen. two Auck1 anders who follow the 'calling of bookmakers, and are at the same time owners of the hurdle horse Cachuca, have been notified by the Wanganui Jockey Club authorities that if they wiah to follow their calling 1 at the o tub's meetings next month they will have to withdraw their horse from -his engagements- at the gathering. This presumably is. the upshot of one of the clauses suggested by the New Zealand Conference, which stipulates that mo bookmaker shall be allowed to run a horse at a meeting where '• he is betting. The Auckland rider and trainer, J. Chaafe, jun., left fox Sydney the other day, and if - inducement offers will take up his residence . in New South Wales. All going well in. the meantime, Messrs Ryan and Degxoen will nominate Cachuca for the Victorian Gnand National. Should . the son of Colantds go across to Australia hfc will be placed in F. M'Grath's hands. Irish, who broke down badly when oon- ; testing the Onehunga Steeplechase at the- , A.R.O. spring meeting, is in work again, looking none the worse. The Soult pony Hughde, who- won four out \ of five races in which h» started at the ' Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting, was , offered for sale at auction on Friday, but '. w*b passed in when the bidding stopped at ' 150gs.
