SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS
The usual monthly meeting of the School Commissioners was held on the 18th inst ,
piesent — Messrs W Dallas (in the chair), D Borne, T. Mac Gibbon. pud the Hon. H. Felclwick. An apology for absence was recei\ed from Mr E. H. Wilniot. The Secretary to the Treasury wrote stating that the Treasury was informed that £350 4s 3d would be refunded. — Received. The Stock Inspector at Invercargill wrote stating that he would take steps to see that the land complained of by the commiss.oneis was cleared of Canadian thistles and ragwort, but that gorsa-had not been declared a noxious weed. — Received. Thomas Baxter wrote asking to surrender his lease of s-ections 10 to 13, block VII, Vaikaia, with valuation fcr grass, fences, buildings, and willow planting for river protection — Surrender to %c accepted and valuation allowed for impioveinents as specified in the lease. A letter was received from D. Huches. lessee of sections 1 to 10. block 11. and sections 1 to 12, block 111, South Mossburn, asking that the lease be made to commenre from present date. — To be informed that the ccmmiseioners
could lift' see their way clear to alter tie terms of the lease. Consideiat.on of a letter fiom M M'Kenzie applying to lease a piece of land at Waikaia was he'd over. A letter was received from Mo«srs Russell and Son, foiwiutling lian=ftr ot lease of section 1 of 19 of section '23, block I. Invercargill Hundred, from R. Day to E S Farrar, — Agreed to. A A'exander wrote on behalf of Annie Alexandei and R M'Lennan, asking for approval of commissioneis to tiansfer of lease of sections 1 and 2. block XII, AYaik.ua district, to R M'Lennau — AgieeJ to Hislop and Cieajrh applied Jor consent to transfer lease of section 22, block XXVII, Oamaru town, from J K. Hood to J. Swmdley, and to mortgage from Swmdlcj to Enterprise Bui'dmg Society — Agiccd to John Reid, lessee of section, part 18. block V, Kauroo district, wrote slating thai he had been paying rent on 400 acies, and tint the area was said to be only 326 acres 3 roods 7 poles — To bo informed that tlm area shown (400 acres) appeared to be ;oircct. The ranger's monthly report was received. Accounts amounting to £83 Is 4d were passed for payment.
MTIETINfi OF CREDITORS. A m^etinsr of the cre<litor« of William Join: Holt, labourer, of Duue-diu, was held before Mr C C. Graham oftirui! assignee, on the 18th inst Mi \V L Moore appeared for the bankrupt, but tlie o.uy creditor present was the representative ol the New Zealand Clothing Factarj (£2 7s 61). The bankrupt's statement sh^A-ed liabilities to unsecured creditors amounting to JEBI 18s 7£d His assets were nil. The principal creditors were S. Welsford (Clyde). £38 5s lli<i, Naylor, Ltd (Clyde) £15. Reddell and Co (Dunedin), JEG ss, the balance being for small amounts below £5 The bankrupt's statement showed that seven years a.go he wa.s in business at Clyde as a coal carter, but hid alwa\s been mote or less hampered with deHts. In consequence of ill-health he gave up business, «md was laid aside foi mv.iy weeks with rheumatic fever, erysipelas, and other complaint" At present he was earning 7s per day. and paid 12s per week lent H = Litm'y numbered eight. As ther? was no quorum of creditors present the meeting wa< adjourned sine die.
