February 24. — A welcome rain fell here at th« beginning of last week, but not nearly enough to do any real service.' The dntlook for winter feed is gloomy indeed, and already milk supplies have fallen off alarmingly, whi c butter is just about unobtainab'e. Trap Accident.— Last Friday morning, whilst dnving towards Morven. Mr George Wilson, of Wellington, and his brother-in-law, Mr J. AI Peebles, by the sudden collapse of one of the wheels of their gig. were urecipitated into the- roadway, fortunately without any injury other than a severe shafing. The horse meanwhile had bolted with the gig— minus one wheel — and after a madly rapid course finally stopped against a gorse hedge On examination the horse proved to have been rather badly cut on the off hind fetlock, which will ' necessitate his b2ing in " sick bay " for nearly a month. Steward Settlement.— Desoite the fact of two bad seasons in rotation, the Stewaid Settlement is making satisfactory progress. Crops have proved fairly gocd in most cases, but of course turnips, are backward. New buildings are bsing steadily erected, the latest being one now in course of erection for Mr Fred Gumb. This is a very roomy structure of five rooms and outbuildings, and when completed should piesent a comfortable and pleasing appearance, Mr Edward Smith, of the Ferry Road block, will also start building very shortly a most commodious and oinate villa of eight rooms, which will at once command attentior foi its bold and ,
artistic appearance. Bicycle Accident. — By the breaking of the forks of his machine a young man, an employee of T M'lnerney. blacksmith, sustained, on Saturday night last, serious injuries to his head and face. He received what attention could be bestowed locally, and on Sunday morning rode to Oamaru, a distance of 15 miles, to seek medical advice
