THE HON. W. HALL-JONES

WELCOMED HOME. TIMARU, February 21. The Hon. Mr Hall-Jones received a hearty welcome home to-night from his constituents, who crowded the. Drill Hall. The Mayor presided, and made a speech of welcome and presented an illuminated address, congratulating the Minister on his restoration to health and al«o on the completion of his twelfth year of service as a Minister of the Crown. The other speakers were the Hon. Dr JFindlay, the Hon. Sir W. J. Steward, the Hon. T. Y. Duncan, Mr F. R. Flatman, M.P., and Mr Mark Cohen. All the speeches were of a congratulatory character, and high praise was accorded to Mrs Hall-Jones for the care which she had ebown, and which had saved her husband's life. Most of the speakers dwelt upon the diligence, conscientiousness, impartiality, and courtesy with which Mr Hall- Jones had ]>erformed his duties as a Minister. Hia oW colleagues and the representatives of South Canterbury warned him against overwork in future. Mr Hall-Jones made a suitable reply of thanks for the kind reception given him. for the unexpectedly numerous and warm Assurances of sympathy he received before leaving for England, wnich had been a great factor in his recovery, and for the support he had alwajs received from his constituents. The meeting was most cordial. Mr HallJJonee will return north on Monday.
