CHAT GE AGAINST A CONSTABLE.
WELLINGTON. February 14. The appeal of Constable Turner against tho decision of (he magistrate, who conAitted and fined him foi assaulting a man named Patterson, na^ argwd before Mr Justice • Cooper to-day. The question turned on whethpr tho constable had arted lightly in arresting Patterson, who had need unjustifiable language to Ihe officer, and who was duly convicted and fined for so doing. His Honor said tho extreme course of arresting without a warrant should be carefully scrutinised. la ths present case it was quite clear that the constable had no justification for the arrest. The appeal would be therefore dismissed, but without costs, as the Tespondont had brought all the trouble on, himself.
