ENTHUSIASTIC WELCOME.

AUCKLAND. February 17.

Cardinal Mo ran aimed from S.\dnc--\ by the Manuka early on Sunday evening. Ho was welcomed by the local elcncs of tl.e Roman Catholic Church, and an immense crowd escorted •^iin to the residence of Bishop Lenihan. The scene in the town was one of intense enthusiasm. The Cardinal's carriage was pushed along rather than pulled by the horses. On arrhal at the Palace Bi>hop Lenihan made a epeeth of welcome. Cardinal Moran thanked tho people of Auckland for the ierv enrhu?iaeric welcome extended to him. Such a reception could not do other than cement the union which from the earliest da\s had existed between tbe great diocese of S\dncy and the diocese of Auckland.

Cardinal Mo ran visited St. Patrick's Cathedral and several other Tloinan Catholic institutions to-day. This e\ening he opened the St. Patrick's Grand Dominion Festival, which is beinsr held in the Royal Albert Hall in aid of the building fund of St. Patrick's Cathedral. In the course of his remarks he evinressed his pleasure at the erreat changes that had taken place in relijrious and social matters in New Zealand since his last visit 22 years ago, and he specially referred to the righ distinction of the title of "Dominion"' which had recently been conferred upon this countryThe Cardinal lea%-es for Rotoiua to-morrow morning.
