secretaries are requested to forward paruduitx* of jfcoiM plfcjw *td »f rortbooffliac matches. NOTES BY JACK. The question of reiniroducing pennant matches in the Dunedin district is likely to provoke a keei? discussion during the slack season. .The subject is likely to come up at an early meeting of the Dunedin Centre, when a proposal" will be submitted bj Mr O. J. Pajne, who after his Australian (\pellenco has become convinced that = .me mod'fication of the present system in operation throughout the Commonwealth is ce-irable. The game on Saturday between Green inland and Dunedm was jn some quarters regarded 1 as one deciding the premiership in intjrelub marches. Green Island had i won all their matches except one, having tied with Caversliam, aad they regarded the
■ T DumecHn men as tfc« only "lion in tfßf s path" to the premiership. With only xnf\ rinks in the field, the suburban men on thy season's play appeared to have a good ' winning prospect, but ft« affaire turned out they were never in the hunt, and wenC 1 ' down by 33 points. On the Dunedin grees 1 Sinclair recovered his form, and with strong backing was 17 to the good, thft visitors scoring at seven ends only. Doll 1 ran away from Young, and was 18 to six at thf twelfth end. Then "JSandy" got in si». and followed it up with three, but a single : was all that was forthcoming in the final seven heads. The greens had scored at sijj ends altogether. The game between Bents ley and M'Donald was keenly contested and well worth witnessing. On five occasions' the scores were even, but M'Donald waa always the first to move ahead, and rathe end won by three points. On the Greftfl, Island plot M'Laren and his men were bA sea at first, and Smellie scored 11 before they made a move. They scored at 11 ouC of the 16 succeeding heads, but the Green Islanders put in two threes, a four and a two, and totalled 2* to M'Laren 's 22. M'Mu!'lan was in trouble from the first against j Johnson, of Dunedin, scoring at seven heads only out of the 21. The Dunedin mer* had to be content with eight singles and a brace in the last IS heads, so that the game was far from being one-sided. Caversham is to be congratulated on i<j gallant fight against Kaituna Club otil Saturday., sustaining defeat by two point* I only. Of course, the senior club was no^ playing its full strength, but in an eightj rink game it is evident Caversham is liable , to give a shaking up to any club, and nexfc | year may go even further. | Oainaru people anticipate a record entrj) for the Easter Tournament, in which era* the Waimate or Palmerston greens wiU have to be ased, or. possibly^ both greens. If a plethora of prizes will make good bowlera some champions may shortly boi expected from the Walcatipu Club. The play in the championship singles (Preafj dent's prrze) has reached the semi-final, and) in the bracelet match only the final rs- ' mains to be played between Henderson and] King and Kelly and Pattersson. Thd ! brooches have been won for the present I from the holders (Warren's rink) br M'Neil's rink. A 6et of silver-mounted I bowls, presented by a Dunedin firm, are ta ' be played for by "maidens," and a pair* [ handicap match for trophies presented by the president will shortly be commenced. The master printers of Dunedin engaged! in a game of bowls on the Roslyn green I last week, and had a high time of it. Th« game was between president and vice-pre» sident, two rinks a-side, but the j>resi« dent's side was not in the running. During the afternoon the wives of the president aad) vice-president entertained' the bowlers and the large numbei of visitors to afternoon) tea. I hope to see a photo of the merty group in next week's issue. Mataura Olub received" a visit from fouc rinks from Northend, Invercaxgill, on the! 12th, the /isitors winning by 98 to 74* Hunter's rink put up 41 to the 11 scored fyyj Lipscombe. The Northend skip, Wallace*,; accounted for G. Watson by 23 to 15, and) Wesney got home by one point from Murdoch. The only winning Mataura rink watf that skipped by D, Holmes, who beat Han? nah by 29 to I*. Six rinks from the Gore Bowling Club^. mostly young players, except the 6kipa; visited Invercargili on the 12th. Te ItangiJ beat the visitors by 110 to 93, and Southr land by 98 to 83. The game proved highly enjoyable. Milton Club, playing four rinks in a pennant match, scored a win over Balcjv.thd! Club by three points— 7B to 75. Two o^ thai Balclutha teams were " up," Gunthorp beat-> ing Grant by 28 to 18 and Finn accounting! for Moore by 21 to 17. W. Taylor, foi Milton, put down R. Mason by 17 to 15"# and Robertson beat Steven by 26 to 14. Palmerston sent three rinks to Oamarui and sustained a double defeat, josing to Phoenix by 23 points and to Meadowbank) by 20 points. The visitors were hospitably treated. Against Phoenix, Lefevre's team! was the only one to win, beating Heron's rink by 19 to 17. Against Meadowbank, in the afternoon, Dr Hislop's rink beat Bryanti by 22 to 16, the two other visiting rinks losing to their opponents. On Monday eTening. 9th inst., a bowling match was playod between teams represent* ing Outram and Oddfellows' Clubs, the occasion being the annual visit from sistejj lodges to the Outram lodge. After an enjoyable game Outram proved the « innera by 11 points. In the evening, after th«l transaction of lodge business, the bowlers were entertained by the members of thai Order. The various lodges in Dunor'in, and also the Mosgiel lodge, were well r«-" presented. An enjoyable evening was spent^ a capital programme of songs, recitations, etc.. being gone thiough. The singing of "Aitld Lang Syne" terminated the proceedings. j Fjurfield v- Taieri. i These clubs met on the Taieri Green onl Saturday, victory resting with the home team. Scores .— F. T. J.
