THE WAIMATE MEETING.
One of the most popular one-day fixtures ir. the South Island is got off by the Waimate Racing Club, and this year the pro-giamm-e hung up for the annual meeting 1 (which is set down for Thursday, March 19) is of such an attractive nature that increased patronage from horse-owners eKould b 1 assured. The Waimate Cup carries a stake of 120sovs, including- a cup valued at 20eovs, and is to 'be decided over one mile. The principal race is balanced with the Harvest Handicap, of lOOsovs, six furlongs, and the two events form a. double well worth winning. In addition there is the Stewards' Welter, of 60sovs, eeven furlongs, and the remaining events are as follow: — Trial Plate, of 30sovs (for three-year olds and upwards that have not won a race of the value ot 25sovs), six furlongs; Studholme Stakes, of 50sovs, five furlongs ; Morvcn Trot, of 35sovs, one mile and a-half; Presidenfs Handicap, of 35eovs, four furlongs; and Hook Trot, of 30sovs, one mile. Nominations a-re due on Monday. March 2, with Mr Logan Glendinning, the secretary of the club.
