THE SOUTH CANTERBURY MEETING
The South Canterbury Jockey Club 1a evidently determined not to be left behind in the march of progress, and gives evidence of that by the pleasing programmo which it has issued for its autumn meeting. On the first day the principal event is to bo the Timaru dip, of 150sovs, one mile and a.-quai-ter; and the chief item on the second day's card will consist of the Autumn Handicap, of 110aO\6, one mile. Next to thcte in monetary importance come« the Flying Handicap, of live furlongs^ the President's Welter, of 70so\s, seven furlongs; Stewards' Welter, of 70=.ovs, seven furlongs ; and the Farewell Handicap, of 70sove, six furlongs. Two handicaps for two-yeax-olds also find a place on the bill, and they are each endowed with, stakes of 60sovs. The mniior events consist of the Rosewili Handicap, of 50so\s, six furlongs; Smithfiekl Handicap, of 50sovs, four furlong*; Washdyke Trot, of 40eo\s, two miles fc. Hack Race, of 40sovs, five furlongs; Eurerca, Handicap, of 50so\s, six furlongs; Pareora Handicap, of 50sovs, four furlongs ; Seadown Trot, of 4050v3, two miles; and Hack Handicap, of 40eovs, five furlongs. Nominations are due on Tuesday, March 10.
