WAIPHAI.
I February 17.—Duiing the past fortnight the great heat has brought on the crops to ripeness, and the binders are busy everywhere. Welcome showers fell on the 7th, 9th. 16th. and 17th, and freshened the grass and turnips The oat crop generally is good. Turnips and grass are growing wpII. and proscects are favourable. Harvest should ba all in early this year, end farmers should ba well pleased. Personal.—The fnneral of Mr Charles Trussler, who waa lulled by a fall from a threshing mill at Wairuna, took place on Saturday. There was a large attendance of friends, both on foot and in traps and on horseback, many having come a considerable distance. Deceased and his family were well known in the district, and much sympathy is felt for the widow and children in their sad loss. Mr S. Trussler, the well-known traction plant owner, is a brother of deceased. The Rev. Mr Blair, of Clinton, officiated at the grave, conducting the solemn service of the Presbyterian Church.
