HOERAKI.
Fe'oiuaiy IG.—The weather up fill the pre- j sent has beeu \ery diy, but at the time of writing (Sunday night; a litfe rain i» falling, which, we hope. i= only a prelude to i a heavy downpour. It 13 badly needed, as j there is very little feed, and a good soaking i will give the dairy-farmers a growth of grass which will be very much, appreciated by tliem. Fishing.—The weather for the past week ha« been rone too good for the fishing fleet,
as some days have been foggy enough to keep the men from getting out eariy in the morning. One man had an exUa good haul of b.ue cod, having caught 7221b weight hiniseli. 'iliis constitutes a. one-man record in blue cod tor Moeraki for one day'a nshing. i The two-men recoid stands at 12G31b for one da}-, ai.d though caught a bom six years ago [ Las never been oenten, though it was api pioached to within 6 b 01 Sib. I hear that the fleet 13 to be augmented by the addition ot two motor launches —one being built to ! the order of Mi J Edniondson by Mr Miller, of Poit drainers, and the other for Mr Scotty Rehu by Mr M'Pherson, of Dunedin. Both boats are being fitted with " Standard" oil engines. I also hear that Mr C. Sproule, of Moeraki, is having an "Imperial" engine fitted to his fishing boat, A'^rt. Entertainment. —The school was filled to its utmost capacity en Tuesday evening to gieet the first appearance in the district oi the Bame Marschel Comedy Company. A splendid entertainment was provided, and the audience showed by their hearty applause their appreciation of the different items. The recital by Mr Marschel of " The Man from Snowy River" seemed to be the item most appreciated, «nd those present were unanimous in the opinion that it was the best show that had ever been In Moeraki. The crowded schoolhouse showed the necessity for a hall for the district, and I hope that the Maoris will see the advisability of removing their hall to a place more cent«il to the district, as it would be more profitable to themselves, and also put the residents in the position of having a building within reach that could be used for entertainments and public meetings. •
