BENEVOLENT TRUSTEES ELECTION.
A meeting of delegates fiom contributing _ bodies to the Olago Benevolent Institution for the purpose of eloeting six trustees to administer its affairs, was held in the Town Hall on the 13th inst. Mr, A. Clulee, secretary to the trustees, presided, and read the proclamation in the Government Gazetre declaring thr> election, on 2nd December last void, for the reason that some of the local bodies delegatedtheir power to vote instead of being directly, represented. The delegates in attendance were-:— Messrs J. Clark (Clutha), A. Orbell (Waikouaiti), M. Stevenson (Taieri), W. Geddee (Green Island), A. Heckler (Ilawksbury), H. A. LeCren (Mornington), J. Ryan (Naseb\), I. Green (North-East Valley). G. L. Asher (Port Chalmers), \V. J. Burk (St. Kilda), W. E. S. Knight (Tuapeka). J. Dickson (Portobello), A. Matheson (Roslyn). H. E. Moller (West Harhonr), J. Ross (Waibemo), D. M'Curdy (Peninsula Road District), J. G. L. Hewitt (Bay Town). The nominations for ihe six vacant 6eats and the voting by ballot for each were as follows: — J. M. Gallaway 15 H. A. LcCren 13 Francis Anderson 13 E. A. Tapper 12 A. H. Bridger 12 W. E. S. Knight 10 H. E. Moller 10 G. Lawrence 7 As there were equal votes for Messrs Knight and Moller the two nominees requested the Chairman to give his casting vote, and this was given in favour of Mr Knight. Dr Batchelcr was nominated, but declined to act. At the December election Messrs Gallaway, Anderson, • LeOren, Arkle, Burnett, and Talboys were returned. The last two as representatives of voluntary eontrbiutors retained office, and in conjnnct : on with Mr Loudon (Mayor) have carried on the business of the institution in the interregnum.
