ILLICIT LIQUOR SELLING.
A NEAT TRAP
WELLINGTON. February 17.
At the Magistrate's Court to-day Charles Clarke, alias James Clarke, was charged with unlawfully selling beer to Leslie Roy Capp. a probationary constable, on January 26. William John Dunn, a probationary constable, stated that he, in company with another probationer, was living at the Paragon Boarding-house for the puipoee of detecting sly grog-selling, if any occurred there. On the 26th of January witness noticed defendant taking persons to a certain place opposite his bedroom window. Wicnes". accompanied by Capp, the other probationer, went down and obtained a bottle of beer. Capp paid 1* 6d for it. Mr Toogood, for the defence, stated that the accused had bought beer and had given it away, but on no occasion had he sold beer. Mr Riddell. S.M., fined defendant £5, in default 14 days' imprisonment.
Owing to th© high price of the ingredients of navy cocoa, coffee and tea will be 6erved to 6ailore as an additional ration in lieu thereof.
