SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR ASSASSINS' FAMILIES. FURTHER DETAILS OF THE PLOT. CLEMENCY OF KING MANUEL. LISBON, February 11. The bodies of King Carlos and Prince Luiz have been transferred to the royal vault. February 13. King Manuel has granted an amnesty to the 6ailors concerned in the mutiny which took place m 1906. February 16. ~ A bomb was discovered under the landing stage where King Ca.rlos and Prince Luiz landed on the day of their death. The fuse attached thereto had been lighted, but the bomb failed to explode. February 17. A crowd of working men laid wreaths on the graves of the regicides at Lisbon. The Republicans are active, despite King Manuel's efforts to conciliate the leaders. LONDON, February 12. The Lisbon correspondent of The Times comments on the incredible equanimity wherewith the assassinations are regarded by the populace. The Standard's correspondent says that th© regicide is considered a justifiable act, and that no real effort is being made to discover the accomplices. Subscriptions are being laised for the assassins' fanrlies. The Republican newspapers demand the criminal prosecution of King Carlos's equerry who sabred one of the assassins. According to some accounts, the public feels that Senhor Franco was too precipitate in abolishing sinecures wholesale. He endeavoured to divide the parties, and then rule as Dictator. The Lisbon correspondent of The Times asserts that the plot was. organised with the tacit, if not with the active, connivance of the Republicans and Monarchists, yet three days later Senhor Franco, despite the ominous complicity of the population, induced King Carlos to sign the initiation of practically a Star Chamber. The assassinations followed immediately. The Daily Telegraph's Lisbon correspondent advises that aOO.OOO persons viewed the remains of the late King and Crown Prince.
