STRANDED BULGARIANS
MELBOURNE. February 14. Senator Best informed the Federal Senate that the stranded Bulgarian*, came | out as the result of wicked and misleading ' representations by certain unsciupulous agents, whom it was impossible to identify. The agents guaranteed to land them in New Zealand or Australia, but , said they would not be responsible if the Government of either country objected to their landing, and that they would have no right to claim their passage money 1 back. The Bulgarians were informed that J they would get work as soon as they I landed, payment at the rate of £1 per day being guaranteed until they secured employment. Mr Best added that even if the Government could discover the agents it was questionable whether it i would have any control over them. Further j inquiries are being made.
