Mr A. Murdoch presided at the monthly! meeting of the Riversdale branch, and, cow sidering- the busy time of the year (mosfc of the farmers around the district being busy with thair harvest), there \*as a good atendance of members. It was moved by Mr Smaill, and seconded by Mr R. Kennedy, that the Riversdale branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union are in favour 1 of being affiliated with the Southland Employers Association, but tho branch is oppoi=ed to the Farm Labourers' Union coming under the scope of the Aibitration Court, for the following reasons :— (1) Because there is no grievance to be redressed J (2) it is not applicable; (3) tha v the farmers^ produce is not protected by tarift as witli other employers of labour, and farmers cannot recoup themselves by raising the price of produce if tbe court should put more expanse on them.— The treasurer waa authorised to pay two small accoun s, and there being no further bwsnie-is the meeting adjourned to Saturday, March 7, at S o'clock. __ , __ , A meeting of the Waikaka Valley branch was held on the 31st ult., Mr Gilohrist ill the chair. A circular was received from) Richard Allen, secretary df the Southland Provincial Executive, with reference to & resolution passed at a meeting of the" executive held on January 17 — ' That ill the interests of the farming community it)
