] THE BOARD APPOINTED. j WELLINGTON, February 4. I At a meeting of the Cabinet to-day it was decided that the following appointments I to the Public- Service Classification Board should be made: — Tho Right Hon. Sir Joseph Ward (Prime Minister), Colonel Collins (Secretary to the Treasury), Mr Hugh Pollen (Under Secretary for Internal Affairs), Mr H. J. H. Blow (Under Secretary for Public Works), Mr T. H. Hamcr J (Under Secretary for Mines), Mr W. T. I Glasgow (Secretary and Inspector of Cus- , toms), Mr J. D. Ritchie (Secietary for Agri- ' culture), Mr T. E. Donne (general manager of the Tourist Department), Mr G. Hogben j (Inspector-general of Schools), Mr E. Tregear (Secretary to the Labour Department), j and Mr John Mackay (Government Printer). j The duties of the board will be to divide | the service into three divisions, the first i including positions to which there is at- | tached a maximum salary of £500 or more, except such positions as the board conskiers to be more suitably classified in the , 6eoond division. It is left to the board to ' decide what positions shall be included in, ; the second division, while the third division, J is to contan all positions to which is attached a maximum salary of less than £500 which the 'board does not consider suitable for inclusion in tbe second division. There is provision in the act for appeal by civil ' servants against the board's classification, I and when the classification has been finally approved by the Governor-in-Council it has to be laid before Parliament, and con.es | into force upon the passing of a resolution. ! to that effect by the House of Representai The board to administer the Public Service Superannuation Fund will consist of 10 members — namely, a Minister of the , Crown, four appointed by the Governor-in- ,' Council, two elected by the contributors m ' the Post and Telegraph Department, and j three by the contributors in other depart- ! ments, of the civil service, i The Minister who has been appointed, ' and will act as chairman of the board, is j the Hon. Dr Findlay (Minister of Internal i Affairs), while the Cabinet decided to-day I that the other members nominated by the I Crown should be Colonel Collins. Mr J. W. i Poynton (Public Trustee, Mr J. H. Rjchardi son" (Government Insurance Commissioner), and Mr \V. C. Kensington. Mr Amelius Smith, who was appointed a. short time ago as secretary of the Superannuation Board, has now been appointed secretary of the Public Service Classification Board and the Officers' Guarantee Fund.
