In countless years agone. when all was nebult* — a misty mass ' (That is, if it be true such were the case), The atom tbit is Me was in the highest class. And 'midst the other atoms held first place. And when from protoplasm was evc«ved, through stages past, The vertebrate that roots and common tree, The goal he had to make in ages vast — His ultimate to find was merely M«. Up from the mammal proudly I progressed, end, through the void. Toward 0 tae homo sapiens made the pace; I was the first among the pithecoid To voice the mental rumblings of the race. I found in after years the only Laws, and! oast aside The faith no longer needed then by me, Anfl here I ■am in all =>y strength »=3 pride — E'en though I learnt my will was far from free. But what of that? I stii 1 have power to scorn the thoughtless crowd ; And on and on I'll go to view the end. And in the sge of ice still just as proud, And still determined no knee I'll bend.
