IN MEMORY OF CECIL RHODES.
MEMORIAL AT KIMBERLEY.
The unveiling of the Rhodes equestrian statue at Kiniberley by the Governor, Sir Walter Hely - Hutchineon, an. Deoember 4 was the occasion of a memorable gathering. His Excellency and staff drove down from, the Sanatorium and •arrived afc the main entrance site at 5.30, where they were- met by Mr F. Hirechhorn (chairman) and the members of the Executive Committee, together with a guard of honour' of the Kimberley Regiment, with the King's colour, presenting arms. Mr Hirscbhorn, in the course of an introductory address, said that more than five years had passed since the death of, Mr Rhodes, but the life of Kimberley was so full of his works and so well were they done that it was difficult to realise that his master-mind had ceased to direct the affairs of the place. No better token of the freshness in which his memory was kept by the people 1 of Kimberley could be evinced than the vast crowd then assembled.
