A speaker at the Congregational Conference at Wellington waxed facetious- in his owd way. In his parish, he said, there were people belonging to many denominations — Anglicans, Presbyterians, Methodists, Agnostics, and even crooked-sticks. Sometimes he had to speak almost to empty benches — and wooden seats were not so my spiring as wooden heads. Gulls are specially fond of long, clams, and many gulls spend their feeding timtf on the sand flats at low tide getting th« clams. The gull takes the clam in its bill; then flies high up in the air, over a roc | c j; and drops the clam so that the shell will smash on the rock. The gull then descend* and enjoys the dainty. In winter a gull will drop a clam on an icy place, if convenient, instead of a rock. The gull setHl wi^v than his ps-me implies.
