The fact, mentioned in tlus column a few weeks back, that there are no further supplies of salmon to come from Vancouver, and that next year will be the year of the 6hort run, has considerably finned the local market. Many merchants are storing stocks, and quotations have advanced as follows : —lib flats. 10s 6d ; £lb flats. 7s 6d ; Cohoes flats, 9s 6d ; £lb flats, 6s 3d. Qtiotations are to hand for new season's Japan rice, which indicate the selling price on arrival at about £16 10a per ton for No. 1. In common with the hardening in value of all twines, the price of seaming twine has been advanced to Is Id. Cable advice reports an advance of £1 per ton in the price of Milestone, and sellers are only offering subject to confirmation of orders. Letter advices state that the sardine fishery on the French coast has been a complete failure, and that no Alberts will be packed this season. Packet dates arc out of the market unti] the arrival of the Karamea. The cost of this shipment will be enhanced owing to the very strong advance at Home, equal to 12d per lb on the packets. The price of tinplates has advanced at Home by 4£d per box, and the indications point to a very strong market. The local quotation is now 19s 6d. The price of raw oil is now 3s 2d, and of boiled oil 3s 4d.
