PICNIC.

OTAGO DAILY TIMES EMPLOYEES. Superb weather, excellent railway accom. modation, a charming rendezvous, and genial! good fellowship were conditions which conspired to make the annual picnio of the Otago Daily Times employees a most pleasurable outing. Outrain Glen, with bush, burn, and boulder, under azure skies, was an entrancing camping ground, and the final drop in the picnickers' cup of pleasure waa added! by Mr J. Flint's String band. A Times picnic without the indefatigable perennial secretary, Mr R. Ferguson, is unthinkable, and it is but necessaxy to Tepeat here th« annual remark that the complete success of the outing was largely due to the efforts of the untiring, übiquitous secretary. A progTamme of amusing competitions in Mrs Beatson's paddock kept the main body of the company interested during the afternoon. Upon the call of Mr Ferguson, a vote of thanks was accorded the company for its donation to t.ie picnic fund. Mr G. L. Denniston and Mr G. Fenwick briefly acknowledged the compliment upon behalf of the directorate, expressing the hops that at function so altogether enjoyable as the Times annual picnic would be continued for many years. The special train conveying the picnickers was delayed for a short time on the return journey, Dunedin being reached at 8.15 p.m. The results of the various compe-. titionß were as follow: — Wheelbarrow Race.— -R. Ballantye tied with Miss M'Mahon and J, Byrne. Apple-eating.— V. Beeby 1 J. Byrne 2. Backward Race.— R. Page 1, E. Whitakeff ! 2. I Ladies' Driving Competition (lady driving gentleman). — Miss Crawley and R. Page. Blindfold Search. — Miss Fitzpatrick anct Esquilant, jun., tied with Miss Mitchell and S. Ballantyne. Daily Times Handicap, 120 yds. —A. Heigh-* way, lyd, 1; R. Page, scr., 2. During the afternoon a photograph of th« party was taken for reproduction in theOtago Witness.
